Jamaica's farthing series ran through a period of considerable constitutional tension — the island's 1944 general election, held under a new universal adult suffrage, was the first in the British Caribbean colonies to operate on that basis, fundamentally shifting who the currency in people's pockets nominally served. The "King and Emperor" title on this issue reflects George VI's dual role following his accession after Edward VIII's abdication, though the Emperor designation was already becoming politically awkward as Indian independence approached.
Production ceased in 1947, the year before Indian independence formally stripped the title from the Crown.
