Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear at the base of the truncation. The king is depicted with a plain neckline and naturalistically rendered hair. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, separated from the effigy by a fine inner border of raised beads.

Reverse description A Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) depicted in left profile, perched and rendered in fine naturalistic detail, occupying the central field. The year of issue appears in the upper field above the bird, and the denomination FARTHING is inscribed in the lower field below. The engraver's initials 'HWP' (Harold Wilson Parker) appear to the left of the date. A beaded border frames the entire design.
