Obverse description A crown depicted with five jewels occupies the central field, with a pellet placed between the sceptre handles beneath. The legend commences at approximately 7 o'clock, introduced by a privy mark in the form of a cross patée. The obverse inscription 'CARO' is notably struck over an earlier 'IACO', providing evidence of the die's reuse from the preceding Jacobean issue. The surrounding legend reads in Latin, abbreviated as CARO D G MA BRI or CARO D G MAG BRI.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering CARO D G MA BRI or CARO D G MAG BRI
