正面描述 Central device features the Shanku (sacred conch shell), a traditional symbol of the Travancore royal house, displayed upright within a raised inner circle. The conch is flanked on either side by decorative foliate sprays. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded border, giving the obverse a well-defined, formal appearance consistent with milled coinage of the princely state era.

附加信息

Chithira Thirunal Bala Rama Varma II came to the Travancore throne in 1931 at the age of eleven, with his mother Sethu Lakshmi Bai serving as regent until 1936 — meaning this 1937 issue was among the first struck under his personal rule. Travancore maintained its own coinage well into the 20th century, one of the last princely states to do so with genuine consistency, operating its own mint at Trivandrum.

The fanam itself has roots stretching back centuries in South Indian trade, the unit long predating British paramountcy in the region.
