Zaman Shah Durrani ruled Afghanistan from 1793 to 1801, spending much of his reign campaigning toward the Punjab while simultaneously fighting off challenges from his own brothers. The British in India watched his westward ambitions with considerable alarm — Wellesley considered him a genuine threat to Bengal. His reign ended when his brother Mahmud had him blinded and imprisoned, the standard Durrani method of neutralizing a rival without outright execution.
The Kabul mint operated fitfully under these conditions, producing copper fulus in irregular quantities tied to local bazaar demand rather than any centralized monetary policy.
