| Beschrijving voorzijde | Irregular square hammered copper flan bearing a two-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh script, divided by a horizontal line across the field. The upper register displays the regnal title and name of Sultan Shihab-ud-Din Mahmud Shah II of the Khilji dynasty of the Malwa Sultanate, while the lower register carries the AH date. The die-struck lettering is raised in relatively high relief against a flat, unadorned field, typical of provincial Malwa coinage of the early sixteenth century. |

Mahmud Shah II presided over the slow dissolution of Malwa as an independent power. His reign ended in 1531 when Bahadur Shah of Gujarat invaded, abolished the sultanate, and had Mahmud executed — making this falus one of the final copper issues of a dynasty that had governed central India for over a century.
