| Obverse description | Central field bearing a stylized leaf motif flanked on either side by a sword, the blades pointing upward, rendered in a bold and rudimentary hammered style characteristic of Afghan provincial coinage. The devices are surrounded by a circular border, the flan being irregular in form as is typical of hand-struck copper issues from Qandahar. The overall composition is primitive yet intentional, with the leaf and swords serving as the principal heraldic device of the emission. |

Qandahar's municipal coinage occupies an unusual position in Afghan numismatic history — the city functioned briefly as a quasi-autonomous issuing authority during the turbulent transition following the Second Anglo-Afghan War, which began that same year. British forces would occupy the city by 1879, rendering this local copper issue obsolete within months of production.
