| Obverse description | Crude Arabic legend fills the irregularly shaped field, struck on a small, roughly circular bronze flan typical of medieval East African hammered coinage. The inscription, executed in a bold if somewhat informal hand, references the ruling sultan and is arranged in multiple lines across the die area. Two small pellets are visible in the lower field, serving as decorative or separating elements between lines of text. The overall die work is characteristic of the limited technical resources of the Mogadishu mint in the mid-fourteenth century, with letters showing considerable relief against the dark patinated surface. |
