Obverse description Central field bears the Shahada inscription in multiple lines of Kufic Arabic script, reading the Islamic profession of faith. The legend is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a marginal circular inscription in Arabic along the outer border, itself bounded by a beaded or dotted inner ring and an outer linear rim. The script is characteristic of early Samanid-period epigraphy, with angular Kufic letterforms rendered in hammered relief.
