Obverse description Arabic legend arranged in multiple lines across the field of this small, crudely struck hammered fals. The inscription reads 'al-'adil muhammad sultan', giving the honorific title and name of the issuing ruler. The letters are rendered in a simple, informal Kufic-influenced style typical of medieval East African Islamic coinage. The irregular flan results in portions of the legend occasionally running off the edge of the coin.
