| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a square or rectangular cartouche containing multiple lines of Arabic kufic legend arranged in horizontal registers, naming the ruling authority and citing Ahmad b. Ali. The cartouche is enclosed within a circular border composed of a beaded or dotted inner ring, surrounded by a continuous marginal legend in Arabic script reading around the full circumference of the coin. The overall design follows the classic Qarakhanid epigraphic style, with no figurative elements, relying entirely on the calligraphic arrangement for decorative effect. The hammered flan produces a slightly irregular surface with areas of uneven strike typical of Central Asian copper issues of this period. |
