| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a boldly rendered lion passant facing right, depicted in the act of attacking or subduing a large fish or crocodilian creature beneath its forepaws, a device long associated with Iranian civic iconography. The animal's body is rendered in relief against a darkened copper field, with stylized musculature and a curling tail. A crescent-like motif appears to the right of the lion's head. An Arabic legend in cursive script occupies the lower portion of the field, likely bearing the mint name or a brief inscription, partially obscured by wear. The entire design is characteristic of anonymous Safavid-period provincial copper coinage, executed in a vigorous but informal hammered style. |
