Abdullah Khan ruled the Yarkand Khanate during a period of sustained pressure from the Dzungar Mongols to the north and internal fractioning among the Chagatayid nobility. Copper fals of this type circulated in the oasis markets of the Tarim Basin — Yarkand, Kashgar, Khotan — where they served the small-denomination needs of trade along what remained of the overland Silk Road routes. The Khanate's coinage is notoriously difficult to attribute precisely within reigns, as dies were often reused across administrations.
