Abdulhamid I came to the Ottoman throne in 1774 — the same year the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca forced significant territorial concessions to Russia, marking a turning point in Ottoman imperial reach. Tunisia at this period operated as a regency under the Husainid beys, striking its own copper coinage largely for local market use while acknowledging Ottoman suzerainty through the sultan's name on the dies. The Tunis mint was erratic in both output and die preparation throughout this decade, and KM#63 specimens show considerable variation in flan quality and strike placement.
