Obverse description The Icelandic coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by the four traditional guardian spirits (landvættir) of Iceland. The shield is flanked on either side by a wreath of stylised foliage, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The date 1966 appears in the upper field above the shield, serving as the sole legend on this face.

Additional information

Iceland never circulated a 1 eyrir coin in aluminium — this piece was struck as a pattern in 1966, almost certainly as part of a broader reform exercise that ultimately produced the aluminium aurar series introduced in 1970. Pattern issues from the Hafnarfjörður-era Icelandic mint are rarely documented in depth, and surviving examples from this specific trial remain outside most reference catalogs.
