Additional information

The "Europ" pattern series was produced in the early 2000s by several non-eurozone countries and mints exploring hypothetical euro-format coinage. Switzerland, having rejected EU membership by referendum in 1992, had no political path to eurozone entry — these pieces were speculative technical exercises, not policy instruments. The Swissmint struck them primarily to demonstrate bimetallic production capability and to participate in the broader European minting community's standardization discussions.

The "Essai/Probe" designation reflects the bilingual Swiss convention, French and German in parallel.
