Aanvullende informatie

Voiron's 1998 euro is one of thousands of locally issued "euro de ville" pieces struck across France in the run-up to monetary union, a phenomenon that functioned more as a municipal fundraising and tourism exercise than any genuine parallel currency. The town of Voiron, situated in the Isère department and known primarily for Chartreuse liqueur production, issued these pieces for use in participating local commerce during the transitional period.

The aluminium bronze specification was nearly universal across the series, chosen to approximate the anticipated appearance of the incoming euro coinage before official designs were finalised.
