Issued by the Saumur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this is a local commercial token — the kind that proliferated across France in the late 1990s as hundreds of regional chambers produced their own euro-denominated pieces ahead of the single currency's 1999 launch. These issues had no legal tender status and circulated only within participating local merchants. Most were struck by Monnaie de Paris on contract.
