| 表面の説明 | Draped bust of Lajos Kossuth, the Hungarian statesman and patriot, facing right, occupying the bimetallic nickel center. The legend 'KOSSUTH' appears to the left of the effigy and 'TRIAL PROBE ESSAI' curves along the right inner edge of the nordic gold outer ring. The country name 'HUNGARY' is inscribed along the lower arc of the outer ring, while twelve raised five-pointed stars encircle the upper portion of the ring in the style of the European Union coinage design. |

Hungary joined the European Union on May 1, 2004, and these pattern pieces were struck that year in anticipation of eventual eurozone entry — an accession that still hasn't happened. Budapest has repeatedly delayed adoption, with successive governments citing economic conditions and, more recently, political resistance to euro integration altogether. The patterns were never approved for circulation and were distributed in limited quantities to officials and collectors.
