Additional information

The Alliance Nord-Ouest was one of hundreds of French regional associations that issued local complementary currencies during the late 1990s, a movement that gained momentum partly in anticipation of the euro's arrival and the displacement of the franc. These tokens circulated within tightly defined commercial networks, typically among member businesses in a single arrondissement or rural canton, and were redeemable only within that system.

No central monetary authority sanctioned them.
