One of thousands of local "euro" tokens struck by French municipalities in 1997–98, well before eurozone adoption, as part of a nationwide promotional campaign organized by the Fédération du Commerce. These pieces were accepted as fractional tender by participating retailers in each issuing town — a coordinated experiment in local scrip that briefly turned French high streets into a patchwork of competing currencies. La Rochefoucauld, a small Charente commune of fewer than 4,000 inhabitants, issued this alongside a matching series of denominations tied to the town's market calendar.
