The numeral 1 appears prominently to the left of the building, with the word euro in lowercase below the architectural motif. | Aanvullende informatie |
Aubenas issued this local currency token during the 1990s wave of French municipal "euro" pieces — a largely forgotten phenomenon in which hundreds of communes struck privately administered trade tokens in anticipation of European monetary union, marketed to local merchants and collectors alike. These pieces had no legal tender status and circulated, when they circulated at all, as goodwill instruments within voluntary commercial networks.
The "[07]" designation refers to the Ardèche department number, a standard identifier used across the French local euro series to distinguish issues from towns sharing similar names in different regions.
