Obverse description Central design depicts the Madara Horseman, a relief motif derived from the famous 8th-century rock carving UNESCO World Heritage monument: an armored rider on horseback thrusting a spear downward into a lion prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The central motif is set within a circular border, around which runs a multilingual trial legend in the field. Small rampant lion devices are interspersed between the legend words. Below the central design appears the mint mark 'G', the date 2003, and at the bottom the Cyrillic inscription БЪЛГАРИЯ (Bulgaria).
