| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing effigy of Prince Albert II of Monaco, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail. The legend MONACO arcs above the bust along the upper rim, while the date of issue appears in the lower field below the truncation. The portrait is the work of engraver Henri Thiebaud and conveys a formal, contemporary style consistent with Monaco's euro coinage series. |

Belgium's euro coinage went through a subtle but catalogued redesign in 2008, when EU regulations required all member states using the pre-2007 map design — which depicted only the fifteen pre-2004 member states — to update their coins to show the full European continent. The transition created a brief parallel circulation period in which both map types were simultaneously legal tender across the eurozone.
Albert II abdicated in July 2013, but dies bearing his effigy continued to authorize coins under his portrait through existing minting contracts, making the post-abdication date range on this type an interesting administrative footnote.
