Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays the second-series common design for the 1 Euro denomination, featuring a cartographic representation of the European continent rendered without national borders against a finely lined globe background. The face value '1 EURO' is inscribed to the left of the map in bold relief, with the engraver's initials 'LL' (for Luc Luycx) positioned to the lower right of the map. Six fine lines traverse the globe design, evoking lines of longitude, and the outer nickel brass ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union.

Aanvullende informatie

Malta adopted the euro on 1 January 2008, having joined the EU in 2004 after a referendum that passed with just under 54% of the vote — a narrower margin than the government had hoped for. The 2nd map reverse design, introduced across the eurozone in 2007 to replace the original segmented-map reverses, shows the full European continent rather than the EU member states in isolation, a change driven partly by political sensitivities around non-member neighboring countries feeling excluded from earlier depictions.

Production spans from 2008 through 2023 with annual mintages varying considerably; collector sets frequently account for a substantial share of lower-mintage years.
