| Obverse description | The copper-nickel clad nickel centre features a large eight-pointed Maltese Cross occupying nearly the entire field, rendered in high relief against a finely engine-turned background of radial lines. The country name MALTA is inscribed around the cross in spaced Latin letters, with the issue year appearing in the lower portion of the centre disc. The nickel brass outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union arranged around the circumference, with the mint mark positioned at the base between two stars. |
