| Reverse description | The reverse of this mule variety retains the first-series European map design, depicting a geographic representation of the fifteen member states of the European Union as constituted prior to the 2004 enlargement, rather than the updated second-series map showing all twenty-five member states that was standard for 2008-dated Portuguese euro coinage. The face value 1 EURO is inscribed to the left of the map, with the designer's initials LL appearing below. The twelve stars of the European Union border the perimeter of the reverse field. |
