Fernando VI never visited the Americas, yet the Colombian mints at Bogotá and Popayán struck gold coinage in his name throughout his reign. His was a deliberately isolationist rule — Spain avoided the Seven Years' War under his watch, a neutrality that kept colonial trade relatively stable and mint output consistent through the late 1750s.
The Hernández references spanning 674–676 indicate multiple assayer variants within this short date range, with the Popayán mint producing notoriously inconsistent planchet preparation during this period.
