Fernando VI never visited the Americas, and his colonial mints operated under considerable administrative distance from Madrid. The Lima mint during this period was producing cob-style gold — the so-called "macuquina" coinage — alongside the newer milled issues, a transitional overlap that created persistent quality inconsistencies. Lima's assayers during Fernando's reign cycled through several responsible officials, and the assayer initial stamped on each piece remains the primary tool for narrowing production to a specific window within the 1751–1759 run.
