| Popis líce | The obverse displays the quartered royal arms of Castile and León within a plain shield, showing castles in the first and fourth quarters and rampant lions in the second and third quarters, all executed in the crude hammered macuquin style typical of colonial Spanish American cob coinage. The shield is struck with visible irregularity due to the flan preparation method, and portions of the surrounding Latin legend may be partially visible or entirely off-flan depending on the individual specimen. The mint mark, assayer initial, and denomination numeral appear adjacent to the shield in the field. The overall design reflects the utilitarian nature of colonial cob coinage, where uniformity of weight and fineness took precedence over aesthetic regularity. |
