Obverse description Armored and draped bust of King Carlos IV facing right, rendered in high relief in the Spanish colonial style. The king is depicted with a laurel wreath and his hair tied at the nape. The obverse legend reads CAROL IIII D G around the upper periphery, with the date below the bust in the exergue area and the mint assayer initials flanking. The portrait is boldly struck with fine detail to the facial features and uniform drapery, consistent with the official royal effigy adopted for colonial gold coinage.
