Reverse description The quartered royal arms of Spain, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, surmounted by a large ornate royal crown, all centrally positioned in the field. The mint mark So (Santiago) and assayer initial J appear in the lower portion of the field, flanking the base of the shield. The surrounding Latin legend NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR encircles the design, separated from the inner devices by a beaded border. The shield is rendered in the elaborate style typical of mid-eighteenth-century colonial Spanish gold coinage.
