The field retains the characteristic rough, uneven surface typical of cob (macuquina) gold coinage of the Spanish colonial period. Partial fleur-de-lis ornaments and portions of the circumscribed legend appear at the coin's irregular periphery, consistent with the hand-struck production method of the Santa Fe mint. |
