Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of Castile and León displayed in the center of the field, characteristic of the cob (macuquina) coinage struck at the Santa Fe de Bogotá mint under Carlos II. The quarters alternate the castle of Castile and the lion of León in the traditional arrangement. The die-struck design is irregular in outline due to the hammered flan-cutting technique, with portions of the surrounding legend partially visible at the periphery.
