The escudo as a monetary unit survived the fall of the Estado Novo dictatorship in April 1974 entirely intact — the Carnation Revolution changed the government but left the currency unreformed, and coins already in production continued striking without interruption through the transition. Dies dated across the regime change show no meaningful variation, which itself tells you something about how smoothly the Mint absorbed the political upheaval.
