Obverse description Draped bust of Britannia facing right, wearing an ornate crested helmet with decorative visor and plume, her hair falling in curls at the neck. The legend BRITANNIARVM DEI GRATIA arcs around the left and upper field, with the date 1995 to the right. A ring of twelve five-pointed stars encircles the periphery to the right, referencing the European Community. The effigy is rendered in fine relief with detailed engraving of the helmet crest and drapery.

Reverse description At centre, a detailed depiction of the Pilgrim vessel Mayflower under full sail, set within a beaded inner circle. Above the ship within the circle, the Latin motto UNITA TUAETUR DEUS arcs around the upper field. Outside the inner circle, the legend EUROPE EUROPA appears above, with THE MAYFLOWER 1620 below, flanked on each side by a stylised flower ornament. The denomination 1 ECU is displayed in a small circle at the base of the design.
