West Friesland's silver duit issues of the 1740s exist largely because the Dutch monetary system had fragmented badly enough that individual provincial mints were filling gaps the central coinage apparatus refused to address. The Enkhuizen and Hoorn mints both operated under West Frisian authority, and attribution of specific dies to one facility versus the other remains unresolved for much of this decade.
The KM#126a designation separates this from the more common copper duit issues of the same type — a distinction that matters considerably for rarity assessments, as silver provincial duits were struck in far smaller numbers and saw less everyday use.
