Obverse description The obverse features the Latin provincial name ZEELANDIA arranged in three lines across the central field, reading ZEE / LAN / DIA, terminated by a pellet stop. The inscription is enclosed within a decorative wreath composed of floral and foliate elements — including roses and leaves — encircling the entire field. The overall design is bold and typographic in character, typical of the hammered small coinage of the Dutch Republic, with the irregular flan lending the piece a characteristic hand-struck appearance.
