Reverse description The crowned arms of West Friesland occupy the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing two rows of lions passant guardant. The shield is surmounted by an ornate closed crown with floral finials. Flanking the shield on either side are upright laurel or olive branches, their stems crossing at the base, forming a symmetrical wreath-like frame. The milled edge forms a decorative border around the entire design.

Additional information

West Friesland struck gold duits as a deliberate circumvention of the Republic's monetary regulations — the denomination itself was nominally copper, but provincial mints exploited ambiguities in the coinage ordinances to strike pattern-adjacent pieces in precious metals, largely for presentation and trade purposes. The 1.5-ducat weight standard places this squarely in that category.

HPM attribution Wf 72.3 distinguishes this from the more commonly encountered single-ducat weight variant (KM#126a), making it the scarcer of the two gold strikings for this type and year.
