正面描述 Central field dominated by the large interlaced VOC monogram — the cipher of the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie — formed by a prominent V beneath intertwined O and C letters, rendered in bold relief. The monogram is flanked on either side by leafy laurel branches rising symmetrically from the lower field. Above the monogram, a small roosting cock device is positioned between two rosette or floral ornaments. The date 1756 is inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the monogram. The coin's border is decorated with a fine milled or beaded inner rim.

附加信息

The VOC duit was never intended as prestige coinage — it was produced in bulk by the Company's own mints in the Dutch Republic specifically to pay Asian laborers and soldiers, and to facilitate small-scale trade in the archipelago where silver was too valuable for daily transactions. By the 1750s the Company's finances were deteriorating badly, with mounting debt and endemic corruption across its colonial apparatus. These duits were struck in enormous quantities, which is precisely why they survive in numbers today, though genuine high-grade examples are rarer than their abundance suggests — most circulated hard in the tropical humidity of Batavia.
