| Obverse description | Central field displays the city name GRONINGA arranged in two lines within a prominent four-lobed cartouche with decorative foliate scrollwork framing. The legend reads GRO- / NINGA. with a period stop, rendered in bold raised lettering. The overall design is simple and civic in character, typical of Dutch provincial copper coinage of the late seventeenth century. The field surrounding the cartouche is plain with no additional embellishment. |
