The lion displays an extended tail and exaggerated claws, consistent with the heraldic tradition of Zutphen. The circular legend surrounding the inner circle reads MON NOVA VET VRBIS, meaning 'New coinage of an old city,' in Latin letters. The overall striking is irregular, with the design somewhat off-center, characteristic of hammered production. |
