Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a crowned rampant lion passant to the left, rendered in the bold, slightly crude style typical of hammered Dutch municipal coinage of the early seventeenth century. The lion displays an extended tail and exaggerated claws, consistent with the heraldic tradition of Zutphen. The circular legend surrounding the inner circle reads MON NOVA VET VRBIS, meaning 'New coinage of an old city,' in Latin letters. The overall striking is irregular, with the design somewhat off-center, characteristic of hammered production.

Reverse description The reverse displays the three-line city name inscription ZVTP / HANIEN / SIS, meaning 'Zutphenian' or 'of Zutphen,' enclosed within a wreath of tulip branches with stylized blossoms and foliage, a decorative motif characteristic of early seventeenth-century Dutch civic coinage. The wreath is rendered with alternating leaves and flower heads arranged symmetrically around the central legend. The whole design is contained within the coin's irregular flan, with the hammered technique producing slight weakness at the edges.
