背面描述 The crowned quartered shield of arms of West Friesland, bearing three rampant lions passant, is centrally placed superimposed upon a plain cross that divides the field into four quadrants. A mural crown surmounts the shield above. The circular legend reads DEVS. FORTI ET. SPES. NOS, distributed around the periphery of the coin in Latin script. The overall design reflects the heraldic conventions common to Dutch provincial copper coinage of the late 16th century.

附加信息

West Friesland's duit issues of the 1590s were struck under the authority of the States of Holland and West Friesland during active conflict with Spanish forces — the Dutch Revolt was then in its fourth decade. Small copper coinage like this served critical practical functions when silver was being hoarded or diverted to finance military operations. The provincial mints were often poorly regulated, and weight consistency across duit issues from this period varies noticeably, a known characteristic rather than a flaw.
