Reverse description The crowned arms of the Generality of the Dutch Republic occupy the center of the field, supported on each side by a rampant crowned lion acting as heraldic supporter. Beneath the shield, the date 1687 is displayed within an ornamental cartouche. The whole is encircled by a beaded border with the motto legend arranged around the periphery. The composition reflects the high standard of engraving associated with the Middelburg mint during the latter decades of the seventeenth century.
