Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Philip IV facing right, wearing a lace ruff collar and richly decorated cuirass, crown atop his head. The date is divided at the top of the field by the mint mark, flanking the royal effigy. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the royal legend in Latin running continuously around the periphery. The portrait is rendered in the baroque style characteristic of mid-17th century Spanish Netherlands coinage, with fine detail in the hair and armor. The overall composition reflects the second bust type used for Brabant ducatons of this reign.
