The mandorla is enclosed within a beaded border. The surrounding Latin legend is an abbreviated votive inscription invoking Christ as ruler. The design follows the canonical reverse type of the Venetian ducat established in the thirteenth century and maintained with remarkable consistency through successive doges. |
