Obverse lettering . FRA DANDVLO S M VENETI
Reverse description Christ in Majesty (Christus Pantocrator) stands facing within a beaded oval mandorla, nimbed with a cruciform halo, dressed in long robes, and holding the Gospels in his left arm while raising his right hand in blessing. Eight six-pointed stars are distributed within the mandorla around the central figure, a distinctive iconographic feature of this Dandolo ducato variety. The surrounding circular legend, inscribed in Latin between beaded borders, reads . SIT * T * XPE * DAT` * Q * TV REGIS * ISTE * DVCAT` *, a traditional Venetian ducal invocation meaning 'May this duchy which Thou rulest be dedicated to Thee, O Christ.' The overall style reflects the Byzantine-influenced Gothic engraving tradition of the Venetian mint.
