1 Ducat - Vladislav I Type IIa

Vladislav I — known as Vlaicu Vodă — struck these ducats following Wallachia's political realignment away from Hungarian suzerainty, a shift cemented after his victory at the Battle of the River Olt in 1368. The "ducat" designation here is a local adaptation of the term, applied to silver issues that borrowed prestige from the gold ducats circulating across contemporary medieval Europe without replicating their bullion value.

Type IIa within the MBR classification distinguishes a specific die grouping within what was already a small-scale princely mint operation. Survivors are scarce; Wallachian silver of this period circulated hard across the Danube trade routes.
