Obverse description Central cross crosslet bearing a small cross at its centre, set within a pearled inner circle. The four quarters formed by the cross are each ornamented with a star in the field. The peripheral legend in Cyrillic characters runs along the outer margin, framing the entire design. The overall composition is characteristic of Wallachian hammered coinage of the mid-fourteenth century, reflecting both Byzantine and Central European heraldic influences.
